Blue Ghost Reunion 2005

Posted: February 3rd, 2006 @ 11:46am

LZ Ft Mitchell

Here are some reunion notes from this year’s annual gathering. The Drawbridge Hotel was the official “hooch” this year, just across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio. About 50 people were able to attend this year, with the first lift arriving Thursday March 31st, other trickling in as they came to their senses, realizing this was the weekend that counts, and drove or flew in.

Tim Lafayette and Carl Smith, the volunteer coordinators and hosts, made a good selection with this hotel. We had a large hospitality room, complete with a keg of brew in case some got thirsty on their journey to the LZ. They did a good job of setting this party up. The hotel layout was one that took a little getting used to as it had a lot of hallways and corners to wind around, until you figured out the short cuts! There were some good restaurants close by, and I think most everyone made a side trip or two to the Levee area where the aquarium is located, to the riverboat to shoot a little craps, the Hoffbrau House to sip a few and eat a bratwurst or 2 !

Richard Dubois was recovering from back surgery, and moving kind of slow, but doing better every day.The rest of us were also moving kind of slow, but that’s what happens when you start getting older than dirt! We had a couple of newcomers this year, which is always good. Once they show, they are likely to return the next year. It never ceases to amaze me at how we pick up like 1968-71 was only a week or two ago! Seems like we can’t remember what happened an hour ago, or last week, but talking about something that happened 30 + years ago, is no problem.

Saturday we had our business meeting, with several items discussed which should make the organization stronger. Ballots will be mailed out soon for the new slate of officers. Please fill them out and return them per the instructions. We did swear in our New President, Paul Reitchel. Good luck to Paul on his election, and lets give him a hand when we can.

The banquet was very good this year, and several members won some great prizes at the raffle. Plans are being made for next year’s bash which will be in San Antonio, Texas, with 2007 to be in Las Vegas, or maybe Phoenix. A committee is gathering data to help us decide which best suits our needs.

Roger Caruthers is in the VA hospital in Memphis, so if you are in the neighborhood, drop in for a visit with him. For those members who could not make it this year, we missed having you to visit with, and hope to see you next year.

If you change your email address, house address or phone number, please notify the admin@blueghosts.com so we can maintain a way to keep in touch with you. I look forward to seeing you all at next year’s reunion. Call a buddy and get them to San Antonio !!
